Dr Amphlett graduated from the University of
Wales, Cardiff, in 1967 with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. He has
worked in the area of fuel cell systems for the past 25years and has
over 200 publications and made numerous presentations in this area.
Some of his most significant contributions have been in the area of
fuel processing, where his group have developed new reforming
catalysts and developed comprehensive kinetic models. These models
are now widely used by reformer designers around the world. Another
area where important contributions have been made is in analysis and
simulation of fuel cell system designs. This work looks at all
aspects of fuel cell systems and has helped identify a number of
critical design factors. It is widely quoted in the literature and
referenced in many patents obtained by companies such as Ballard
Power Systems, Daimler-Benz and Northwest Power.
